Business Activities:
They produce a variety of seasonal vegetables and herbs such as cabbages, leafy greens, vegetable flowers, shoots, stems, salad leaves, onion, beans, pods, fruit vegetables and herbs. They also produce fruit, vegetable juice and sauces.
Challenges/Needs:
When the owner visited Sedfa, Same Agro was faced with the following challenges:
• Had operational issues and wasn’t trading properly
• The business had fewer customers and needed assistance with exposure to the market.
• The owner lacked skills and knowledge to develop a comprehensive business plan.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
An assessment of the business was conducted and the following recommendations were made and implemented:
• Sedfa assisted the client to apply for funding through the Asset Assist Programme (ASP).
• To address the challenge of lack of exposure to the market, arrangements were provided for the client to attend market linkage seminars, Pop-up markets, exhibition shows and workshops facilitated by the local Sedfa office and its stakeholders namely, the Department of Agriculture, Mopani District Municipality, Dti, Gteda and Leda.
• Sedfa assisted the client to apply for funding through the Asset Assist Programme (ASP).
• To address the challenge of lack of exposure to the market, arrangements were provided for the client to attend market linkage seminars, Pop-up markets, exhibition shows and workshops facilitated by the local Sedfa office and its stakeholders namely, the Department of Agriculture, Mopani District Municipality, Dti, Gteda and Leda.
Outcome Details:
The following outcomes were a result of the interventions that were implemented:
• An amount of R234 718 was approved through the Asset Assist Programme (ASP), which was utilized to acquire farming implements which includes working tools, water tank and fencing.
• Same Agro started attracting several customers and the demand has increased significantly. Some of their major customers include Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market, Tswane Green Market, Spar Tzaneen, Spar Modjadjiskloof, Boxer Ga-Kgapane.
• The business ‘s annual turnover increased by 65% from R512 900 to R846 285.
• The number of employees increased from ten (10) to fifteen (15), including the owner.
