Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Hendrik Lebeko Seekoei – HLS Motors - is an informal business operating in the automotive sector, specializing in motor mechanics, repairs, and engine oil services. The owner is self-employed and previously worked at De Beers mine as a diesel mechanic assistant until the mine closed in 2021. Hendrik’s passion for mechanics began in his youth, learning the trade from his father, who was also a mechanic. At the age of 17, he started working alongside his father on weekends. Before joining the mine, Hendrik had already been running his own small operations since 2002 and has never looked back. He primarily works on lighter vehicle makes and models, taking jobs by appointment to suit the market he serves. Hendrik aspires to grow his business and take it to the next level. During an assessment, it was identified that the business needs a more professional image to build trust and gain greater market access. Future interventions will focus on supporting the business’s growth and sustainability goals. Hendrik also plans to continuously upskill himself to remain relevant and keep pace with new trends and developments.
