Its main activity is manufacturing building and paving bricks in different sizes.
Challenges/Needs:
When the client visited Sedfa, Ndhongha Bricks was facing difficulties identified as follows:
• They needed assistance with access to funding but didn’t know how and where they could be funded.
• They were facing tough competition and didn’t have enough resources to market their business.
• It was difficult to measure the financial performance of the business because of lack of records. The business didn’t have a proper financial management system to record transactions.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
After conducting a business assessment, the following recommendations were made and implemented:
• Sedfa developed a detailed business plan which was completed and forwarded to the Nyda to seek financial assistance to purchase brick making machinery.
• The client was also referred to the Lending and Investment of Sedfa via the TREP programme to apply for funding.
• The other intervention was provision of financial mentorship programme which would be useful in maintaining stability in the cash flow of the business.

Outcome Details:
The business experienced the following outcomes after the intervention:
• An amount of R100 000 was approved by Nyda. The funding was used to purchase a new mini electric brickmaking machine with pan mixer, conveyer belt and moulds.
• The business has a proper financial system in place, and its cash flow is now properly manageable.
• The market for Ndhongha Bricks has grown significantly. They obtained contracts to supply bricks to local construction companies.
• Its revenue increased by over 130%, from R130 000 to R300 000 per annum.
• The number of employees increased from five (5) to seven (7), including the owner.
