Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
Driving school
Challenges/Needs:
An assessment conducted by Sedfa revealed that Ncananaa T/A Mike’s Driving School was experiencing several operational and capacity-related challenges that limited its growth potential. One of the key challenges identified was an ageing and limited training fleet, which constrained the business’s ability to provide a modern, comfortable, and efficient learning environment for students, as well as its capacity to meet increasing demand for driving lessons.
The assessment further revealed that the business lacked adequate digital equipment to effectively conduct learner’s driver lessons. The absence of a functional laptop and printer resulted in reliance on conventional teaching and manual marking methods, leading to inefficiencies and recurring printing costs. In addition, despite the availability of funding opportunities, the business faced challenges in accessing financial support due to the absence of formal cash flow projections and limited capacity to complete funding applications independently.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
To address the business’s limited capacity to access funding opportunities, Sedfa first provided support through the development of detailed cash flow projections and assistance with the funding application process. This intervention strengthened the business’s financial planning and reporting capability, enabling it to present a viable and credible funding application aligned with its operational needs and growth objectives.
Following the successful application, Sedfa supported the business through the Asset Assist Programme (AAP), which enabled the acquisition of key productive assets. The funding was utilised to purchase a brand-new Hyundai Grand i10, as well as a laptop and a printer. These assets addressed the identified fleet and operational challenges by improving the quality and comfort of driver training, increasing service capacity, and modernising the delivery of learner’s driver lessons. Collectively, the interventions enhanced operational efficiency, reduced administrative constraints, and positioned the business for sustainable growth and improved service delivery.
