Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Artisanal Africa specialises in the development of organic food products and has partnered with a reputable manufacturer to ensure consistent quality, safety, and scalability in production. The business focuses on the formulation of healthy, high-quality clarified butter and natural fats and oils. Its product range includes ghee, tallow, and a variety of natural oils, all produced with a strong emphasis on purity, nutritional value, and health benefits.
Challenges/Needs: One of the key challenges identified within the business was the high cost of logistics and transportation. The business supplies major retailers across multiple provinces, including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal, which resulted in significant transportation expenses and operational inefficiencies. Due to the absence of a dedicated delivery vehicle, the business relied on external logistics providers, leading to increased costs and reduced control over delivery schedules. This not only placed financial strain on the business but also limited its ability to respond flexibly to retailer demands and manage distribution effectively. To address this challenge, the business identified the need to acquire its own delivery vehicle.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: The client was encouraged to apply for the Asset Assist Programme, through which the application was successfully approved. As a result, a total amount of R250 000.00 was awarded to the client to support the procurement of a delivery vehicle. This funding enabled the business to strengthen its logistical capacity, improve operational efficiency, and support sustained growth across its distribution network.
Outcome Details: The support provided resulted in several measurable improvements in the business’s performance and overall sustainability, including the following outcomes:
1. Improvement in Turnover: The business recorded an increase in revenue, with turnover rising from R 284 025.00 to R 462 015.16, representing a 38.52% growth rate.
2. Job Creation: The intervention contributed directly to employment growth within the business. Three new jobs were created, and two existing positions were sustained, bringing the total workforce to five employees.
