Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Manufactures cleaning detergents.
Challenges/Needs: The company faced significant operational and safety challenges. Manufacturing was conducted from the owner’s household living room, with raw chemicals stored on-site, posing serious health and safety risks. The business also operated with a small mixing machine, lacked proper storage facilities, and had limited access to markets due to inadequate infrastructure and marketing materials.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: SEDFA assisted MCLAU Solutions with marketing material to improve market access and visibility. The company was approved for the Asset Assist Programme to the value of R240,000, which enabled the purchase of two shipping containers used as a dedicated manufacturing space and storage facility. Further support was provided through assistance with applying for the Township and Rural Entrepreneurship Programme (TREP), where the company was approved for R247,000. 00 to purchase raw chemicals, packaging materials, and a larger mixing machine.
Outcome Details: These interventions significantly improved the company’s operations and compliance. MCLAU Solutions now operates from a proper and safe manufacturing facility, has increased production capacity, and has expanded into more markets. The monthly turnover increased from approximately R12,000.00 to over R20,000.00, and the business has sustained two (2) jobs to date. Further growth is anticipated as product testing is underway for SABS approval.
