Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
ICT (NETWORK CABLING & INTERNET CAFE)
Challenges/Needs:
Key challenges hindering these objectives include limited access to growth capital and intense competition from larger, well-resourced ICT firms in national tenders. Additionally, while Kungam has strong community trust, scaling operations requires improved digital sales infrastructure, consistent tender pipeline access, and working capital to manage project cash flow cycles. Overcoming these barriers is essential to transitioning from a regional SMME to a nationally competitive, high-impact ICT provider
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
As part of targeted support from SEDFA, Kungam Group received strategic advisory services and access to critical market information, which directly facilitated two key outcomes: the company secured a R20,000 grant from Standard Bank and was approved for Asset Assist funding worth R240,000. This equipment grant enabled the acquisition of an OTDR tester—essential for fibre optic fault detection—significantly enhancing Kungam’s technical capacity to deliver high-quality network infrastructure projects. These interventions have strengthened the company’s competitiveness in public sector tenders, improved service reliability, and supported its mission to bridge the digital divide in underserved communities across the Free State and Northern Cape.
Outcome Details:
Thanks to the comprehensive support from SEDA Mangaung, Kungam Group has achieved significant commercial milestones that have transformed its market position and revenue potential. This includes an increase in revenue from R190 959 to R 825 005.
