They also offer professional catering for private and corporate events, both on- and off-site. The lodge features 20 rooms, available in either Double or King size options. Each room is fully equipped with modern amenities, including unlimited Wi-Fi, flat screen LED TV’s, the full DSTV hotel bouquet, electric ceiling fans, Air conditioner, fridges and a range of guest conveniences.
Challenges/Needs:
EDEN EST experienced several operational challenges that hindered its growth and efficiency. The owners and employees require ongoing mentoring and coaching capacitation to further grow the business. Furthermore, productivity improvement, quality management and workplace organisation presented significant hurdles. Among these, were the need to coordinate large-scale events efficiently while ensuring seamless execution, the challenge of standing out among competitors and maintaining a strong brand presence, and the pressure to consistently supply quality food, beverages and other supplies without delays. The business also faced the ongoing demand of managing high guest expectations for premium service and amenities, particularly for premium service and amenities.
In addition to these operational challenges, access to finance emerged as a critical barrier. The business required capital to purchase the premises and for equipment, making financial support a key factor in its ability to scale and meet market demands.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
As part of the implementation strategy, the client received structured support to strengthen its business operations and ensure long term sustainability. Sedfa facilitated an application for the client to form part of the Productivity SA Competitiveness Improvement Services (CIS) Mentorship. The client benefitted from the programme, and the intervention capacitated the business with the Introduction to Productivity efficiency, and the following modules were covered, factors affecting productivity were covered: principles of productivity, effect of wastage, process flow, visual management, process mapping, organised workplace, quality management, structured problem solving, and effective internal communication.
To further support growth, the client was able to secure access to finance amounting to R15 million through the blended funding by Sedfa, NEF and Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The loan with was SEFA of R387 385.77, grant portion of R 67 669, totalling R 455 054,77.
In addition, one of the directors and employee attended a five-day IYB Training. The five-day workshop offered a practical, hands-on learning experience, focusing on financial literacy, business planning, and affordable system creation for small and micro businesses. The training guided participants in assessing their entrepreneurial commitments, refining existing business systems, and developing actionable plans for improvement.

As a result of the above-mentioned interventions, the business experienced the following positive results, a seamless guest experience, led to repeat business, positive reviews, and word-of-mouth referrals and boosting brand reputation. Amongst others, efficient event planning and dedicated team have helped us ensure smooth execution, maximizing event capacity. In addition, increasing revenue and improving client satisfaction.
Lastly, establishing new partnerships helped the restaurant business reduce service interruptions, which enhanced guest experience and operational stability. EDEN EST PTY LTD t/a Diggies Lodge experienced growth in terms of turnover and employment. Financial Year End 2023 - R 1,394,657, 2024 – R 3,975,038 and 2025 - R 3,804,152. The increase in turnover was initially substantial and plateaued in the recent financial year. Additionally, employment increased from 5 to 7 employees.
