Ms Majola faced a number of challenges as a small business owner operating in the township. Amongst those listed, was not having sufficient knowledge and skills on how to operate and grow a business venture, limited access to funding opportunities to purchase equipment and expand operations as well as marketing her business in order to attract more customers. Ms Majola experienced challenges with growing the business as sales were stagnant with limited capacity to take on more orders resulting in longer lead times.

Intervention Details:
The client approached SEDFA Amajuba for assistance with business development interventions to improve her business. An assessment and site visit was conducted on the client’s business, which identified gaps and outlined the proposed interventions necessary to assist client in closing those gaps. Sedfa Amajuba assisted the client with access to funding opportunities, through the Asset Assist Programme and access to local markets (Local Trade Exhibition) in order to promote her business offerings.

As a result of SEDFA's intervention, Selina Sara Trading Enterprise (Pty)Ltd managed to increase its client base locally, also resulting in an increase volume of orders extending to other districts and church congregations. The client was approved Grant Funding of R159 500.00 through the Asset Assist Programme to purchase assets and equipment for the business. The funding assisted client to purchase a modified container as well as industrial sewing and embroidery machines. The client was able to expand operations, as a result of having adequate working space and overall efficiency has improved
Results:
An Improvement Assessment was conducted on the business, and the following improvements were noted:
Turnover increased from R6 500 per month to R18 000 per month during period of assessment.
The company added three new jobs whilst sustaining three existing ones.
