Challenges/Needs:
When the co-operative started business, the members realised that none of them have knowledge and skills of administration, financial management and marketing. They were just operating the business without understanding and that lead to loss of profit. The members came to Seda Mopani to be assisted. After consultation with a business advisor and a visit to the co-operative business premises, a diagnostic assessment was conducted to determine the needs and solution for the challenges. They also needed funding for business expansion.

Intervention Details:
The following interventions was identified for the co-operative business:
• The all the members were trained on co-operative Governance and financial management.
• The directors were coached and trained on record keeping, stock taking and how to manage procurement.
• Marketing material and signage was designed, developed for the business.
• An application was submitted for CDSP in 2024
• The cooperative was nominated for Presidential Award for 2024
• The all the members were trained on co-operative Governance and financial management.

Outcome Details:
• After the trainings the members were very committed to make a success of the co-operative business because they were aware and understanding that is expected from them.
• They were able to record and have weekly and monthly report of finance, stock and administrative.
• The marketing material and branding of the business made a huge impact in the business to such an extent that they needed to increase production capacity in other to supply all their clients. They managed to build other structures with the capacity of 3000 chickens and a delivery vehicle with the assistance from the DTI CIS grant funding in 2013. The vehicle helped the co-operative business increase its customers by delivering their chickens out of their area and surrounding villages.
• The co-operative members decided to expand the business by starting to plant vegetables, part of the business expansions has resulted in the appointment of a driver for the delivery vehicle.
• The growth of the co-operative has created and sustained 15 permanent employments for all the members and 11 new employees.
• Revenue generated by the co-operative as of 28 February 2025 has improved from R 473 521 to R 1 435 719 which is 303%
• The co-operative was also taken to various exhibitions such as the Co-operative conference for exposure and to meet and learn from other co-operatives.
• The co-operative has been adopted by the Department of Social Development and Department of Agriculture as their flagship project. They have been nominated and winning in many awards including the following:
1. Female Entrepreneur of the year 2013
2. Women in water awards 2014 with a cheque of R50 000.
3. Top producer informal market position 1 in 2016 and Department of Agriculture disability awards position 4.
4. National Presidential MSME and Co-operative breaking Ground SMME of the year 2024 valued at R 200 000 and this award celebrates the MSMEs who are making waves with their creativity, innovations and impact in their community.
