Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Fast food, which includes juicy beef burgers and hot dogs to crispy chips, flavourful stir-fries, and the local favourite
Challenges/Needs: In May 2024, Mr. Molomo proactively visited the SEDFA (Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency) office seeking business development support. He was assisted by SEDFA practitioner, Mr. Makhubele. Mr. Makhubele conducted a thorough SBAT (Small Business Assessment Tool) diagnostic to evaluate the business's strengths and weaknesses. Based on the diagnostic results, which clearly highlighted the branding, marketing and visibility challenges. Despite a promising start and a dedicated customer base, Uncle Big Some's growth had begun to plateau. The primary challenge identified was lack of visibility and professional branding resulting in low patronage. The business was operating without essential attractive signage, making it difficult to attract new customers at local events, markets, and even from passersby near their location. This lack of branding meant they were not maximizing their sales potential and were unable to project the quality of their food through their market presence. This business case justified the critical need for investment in branding and marketing materials. It outlined how providing Uncle Big Some with a complete branding package would directly address their growth constraint and lead to a significant increase in turnover and market reach.

Client Feedback

Client Comments: Before SEDFA’s support, we were just another small stall. We knew our food was good, but we struggled to show it. The branded gazebo, menus, and tables from SEDFA changed everything. Now, when people see our setup, they know we are a professional and serious business. It gave us the confidence to go to more events and reach more customers. Our sales have multiplied, and we have even been able to hire someone from the community. This was the push we needed to truly grow. Thank you to SEDFA for believing in us and our dream.”
