Challenges/Needs: When Ms. Mokitimi approached SEDFA, she was facing several challenges that hindered the growth of BBM Treats. These included a lack of funding to purchase machinery and equipment needed to upscale production, limited access to broader markets, and the absence of financial statements required for compliance and to assess the business’s financial position. Additionally, she identified the need for training and mentorship to strengthen her business management skills and improve operational efficiency.

Small Business Assessment Tool and Business Model Canvas were conducted, and Sedfa assisted with the following:
• Trade Facilitation and Pop-ups for exposure to broader markets through Lemo markets, Bloem plaza and other referrals to stakeholders
• Financial Management Training to strengthen her record-keeping
• Training on Food Safety Management System to ensure products meet industry standards
• Development of financial statements for the financial position
• Asset Assist Programme for access to funding
• Marketing material for brand awareness
• Mentorship and Coaching, ongoing guidance to improve general business operations.
Outcome Details: Through SEDFA’s intervention, Ms. Mokitimi received comprehensive support that significantly strengthened BBM Treats’ operations and growth prospects. She was assisted with trade facilitation and participation in pop-up markets, which expanded her brand visibility and customer base. Referral to Mangaung Municipality, where she obtained her Certificate of Acceptability (COA). She successfully completed training in financial management and food safety, equipping her with essential skills to manage the business effectively and maintain high product standards. Marketing material was developed to support her market access efforts further.
The client was approved for the Asset Assist Programme, receiving funding amounting to R107 630.30 for the purchase of machinery and equipment to upscale production. Financial statements development enabled Ms Mokitimi to better understand her company’s financial position, make informed decisions, and meet regulatory requirements. She continues to benefit from an ongoing mentorship programme guiding her growth journey. This support led to a significant increase in turnover from R9 353 (2024) to R62 805 (2025), with the creation of one new job and sustaining of one job.
