Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
Clothing manufacturing and retail business that specialises in the design and production of customised women’s clothing, with a strong focus on evening wear gowns, tailored dresses, and custom-fit garments. In addition, the business provides tailoring services that cater to the unique style preferences.
Challenges/Needs:
The business is currently pursuing a range of growth initiatives aimed at expanding its footprint and accessing new domestic and international markets. In July 2024, Sluvin Design was approved by Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) to participate in the Africa Fashion Week London, scheduled for October 2024, a prestigious platform that offers significant exposure to global fashion stakeholders.
However, despite this valuable opportunity, the business faced a challenge due to the lack of professionally developed marketing materials, which limited its ability to present the brand effectively and competitively on an international stage.

Outcome Details:
Participation at the Africa Fashion Week London proved to be highly successful for the client, yielding both immediate sales and long-term business opportunities. During the event, the client was able to sell 100% of the stock brought to the exhibition, demonstrating strong market interest and demand for her products. In addition to the on-site sales, the business has since experienced an increase in repeat orders and ongoing inquiries from international customers who were introduced at the event.
This positive trend is further reflected in the client’s financial performance. Over the past six months, the business has recorded a notable increase in turnover, signalling improved revenue generation capacity. The ability to retain four existing employees and the creation of one additional job has ensured operational continuity and job stability.
