At inception, faithbites Biltong experienced challenges which included amongst others, lack of business skills such as financial management and pricing. As a start-up, the business experienced a challenge with poor clientele due to lack of marketing activities and branding. Faithbites Biltong products were also not tested at the beginning.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
The client approached the SEDFA Mangaung branch for assistance. An assessment was conducted and action developed. Faithbites Biltong management was referred to QMS and Financial management Training to capacitate them with skills to manage day-to-day operations of the business. The business product was also referred to SABS for product testing to ensure conformity to customer requirements. As part of access to markets, the business was assisted with branding and promotional material and was later referred to the 2025 edition of the BloemShow to go and exhibit their products.
Outcome Details:
SEDFA interventions yielded positive results. The branding intervention assisted the business to expand its reach. The business’ clientele improved, and they can now deliver to clients nationally via courier services. The Bloemshow exhibition assisted the business to expand its clientele, and they are now servicing both individuals and businesses. As a result, the monthly turnover increased from R7,527.00 per month to R21,514.00 per month. Employment increased from 1 to 3 staff in total. As part of the expansion, the business relocated from home to dedicated business premises in town where they are easily accessible. The owner of the business was also featured on Lesedi FM and CUT radio stations where she got to promote her business.
