Challenges/Needs: When the owner first approached Sedfa El Divino Guest House had a challenge of penetrating the market because the business was still new and not well known in this highly competitive environment. The growth of the business was stagnant, and the sales were very low. The owners needed assistance to be able to market the business adequately. El Divino was also unable to grow its market share and access the broader market to improve sales after the negative impact of COVID-19. The business noticed a sharp decline in turnover for the 2022/23 financial year, because of COVID-19.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: Sedfa used a tool called the Small Business Assessment Tool to identify appropriate interventions that will assist El DiVino Guest House in improving sales and reaching the desired levels of growth. After completing this assessment, Sedfa decided to assist El DiVino Guest House with the development of a website that incorporated e-commerce capabilities. The owner further attended SEDFA’s basic business skills training.
Outcome Details: As a result of Sedfa's intervention, El DiVino Guest House has increased its client base amid a challenging economic environment. The company achieved the following improvements:
• Turnover increased from R380 000.00 to R480 000.00, a 26% increase at Improvement Assessment period.
• The company increased employment from three (03) to five (05) part-time workers, a 66.67% increase.
• The overall administration and marketing of the business improved, and new markets have opened for them. They have secured construction clients that frequent the guest house and stay for longer periods.
