Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: XNH Enterprise buys day-old chicks, raises them, and sells them as free-range chickens once they reach maturity. Additionally, some of these chicks are raised to become egg layers. When the egg-laying hens reach the end of their productive lives, they are sold.
Challenges/Needs: One of the major challenges faced by XNH Enterprise was the inadequacy of the chicken coop. The existing structure was a temporary and incomplete setup, which limited the number of chickens and layer hens. As a result, the capacity for raising chickens and producing eggs was limited. To address this challenge, the business required funding to construct a permanent, high-quality chicken coop that could accommodate a larger number of poultry, including both broiler and layer chickens. Additionally, to meet the increasing demand for affordable eggs, the business needed to increase the number of layer hens to boost daily egg production. The client required funding of R250 000.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: Seda provided valuable support to XNH Enterprise through the Asset Assist Programme by awarding a grant of R250,000.00. This funding was allocated to address key operational needs. The grant was used for the following purposes:
1. Building Materials: To construct and extend the chicken coop, ensuring it meets the necessary standards to accommodate a larger number of chickens and layer hens.
2. 200 Layer hens: To increase the number of layer hens, thereby increasing daily egg production.
3. Chicken Feeders and Drinkers: To equip the newly extended coop with the necessary infrastructure to support the care and feeding of the poultry.
Outcome Details: As a result of the support and efforts made, XNH Enterprise has seen progress in two key performance indicators:
• Turnover Increase: The turnover increased by 18%
• Employment Increase: The number of employees increased, creating 1 new job.
