Business Activities:
After witnessing one of the biggest challenges of dairy hawkers- loss of sales caused by constant refrigeration, Marks Motsie saw a potential of starting ambient yoghurt. He started working on the product in his kitchen while consulting with the industry experts until he got the product right.
After he got the product right, he didn’t know where to start to market his product. Luckily, his sister was business-minded and referred him to Seda for assistance. He then approached Seda Sasolburg Mestimaholo Office for assistance in 2021. Through numerous consultations with Seda, he decided to formally register his business in order to establish it as its own legal entity. The business was officially registered in January 2022 and started operating in August 2022 where he was operating as a sole man.
However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing, the business struggled to get customers/clients at first until he decided to directly approach various potential customers/clients in Zamdela. First, the business approached local tuckshops including street vendors in the area to offer ambient yoghurt delivery to their businesses. Furthermore, the business also approached private households in Zamdela (especially the ones that are willing to buy in bulks) in an effort to increase sales and revenue. Challenges identified
• One of the key challenges identified during the Assessment of Company Operations (ACO) was the lack of sufficient operating space as the business was growing rapidly.
• Another major challenge identified during ACO assessment; the product was not branded/packaged to meet the customers’ requirements.
• The company did not have a logo to distinguish itself from other competitors.
• Due to increasing demand for yoghurts, the business needed a delivery vehicle that would have the capacity to deliver the products to their clients/customers.
• It also needed to get additional equipment and machinery to meet with the increased business demand.

• The client was assisted with linkage to Seda National out of Pitching Competition to access funding.
• Seda assisted the client with the company logo and product branding in order to help the company to be competitive in the industry.
• The client was also assisted with the product testing and accreditation.
Outcome/ Results
• The business has managed to relocate to Zamdela Business Factory Land.
• The business has received R50 000 in support from Seda: National Out of Pitching Competition towards the purchase of machinery.
• The business also received R15 000 Working Capital from Standard Bank.
• The business further increased its turnover from R498 000 to R643 000
• The business retained its employees (3 employees)
