Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Baked good and treats
Challenges/Needs: challenges that Dimakatso faces in realizing these objectives. Dimakatso is in need of more advanced business and financial management skills to better handle the complexities of scaling her operations. Furthermore, while her brand has gained visibility, there is still a need for more robust marketing strategies to reach a larger customer base beyond the local community. Finally, the need for a larger operational space remains a critical challenge as Dimakatso currently works from her home kitchen, which limits her production capacity and the ability to hire more staff.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: Sedfa assisted Dimakatso by mentoring her on how to create her own certificates for the baking classes she offers. This allowed her to enhance the professional image of her business and attract more clients. Additionally, Sedfa guided Dimakatso through the process of applying for funding from the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA). As a result of this support, Dimakatso successfully secured R50,000 in funding, which she used to purchase new equipment to improve the operations of her bakery.
Outcome Details: Sedfa’s interventions have had a significant impact on Dimakatso’s Bakery's revenue. The bakery's turnover increased from R42,000 to R66,000, marking a 57% growth in revenue. This increase was driven by improved marketing strategies, the introduction of certificates for baking classes, and the expansion of her business. The quality of Dimakatso’s baked goods has improved due to better equipment funded by the R50,000 she received from the NYDA. This has allowed her to increase production capacity, improve consistency in her baked goods, and meet growing demand. Dimakatso hired her first employee in January 2025 to assist with sales at Seetsing, Qwaqwa. This created an additional job in the local community and helped to alleviate some of the workload from Dimakatso, allowing her to focus on expanding the business further. She was one of the Free State top 10 finalist at Iwisa pitching competition
