Business Activities:
In 2002, Mr Mohale Evans Maake established PME Projects and formally registered it with Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (Cipc) as a general construction company. In 2022, after identifying a gap in the market, he then established PME Bricks a wholly owned subsidiary of PME Projects. PME Bricks manufactures and sells quality affordable bricks in different forms, such as stock, block and paving. It is located at No.14, Dusseldorp village alongside the R36 Lydenburg road outside Tzaneen, Limpopo Province.
Challenges/Needs:
• The business was not trading due to lack of funds. They needed assistance with access to funding but didn’t know how and where they could be funded.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
• Seda developed a detailed business plan which was completed and forwarded to the Technology Transfer Assistance (TTA) to seek financial assistance for a brick manufacturing plant.
• It was also recommended that the business be assisted with product testing intervention with SABS.
• It was also recommended that the business be assisted with product testing intervention with SABS.
Outcome Details:
• An amount of R801 186 was approved through Seda‘s Technology Transfer Assistance (TTA). The funding was used to purchase a new fully-fledged dual brickmaking plant with pan mixer, conveyer belt and moulds.
• The market for PME Bricks has grown significantly. Most of the customers are residents and businesses in building construction.
• The bricks are in the process of being tested to comply with the requirements and standards outlined by the SABS.
• Its revenue is currently R815 238 per annum, this is a significant milestone considering that the business wasn’t trading at the time of visiting Seda.
• The number of permanent employees is eight (8), including the owner.
