Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
Nthabbys Delights Pty (Ltd) is a 100% female-owned baking and catering business based in Kwa Nobuhle. While the business was officially registered in June 2022, the dream began long before that, in a small kitchen in 2020. Initially, the business was born out of a love for creating delicious, homemade baked goods for family and friends, but it quickly became evident that this passion could grow into a fully-fledged business.
Unfortunately, like many other small businesses, Nthabbys Delights was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The uncertainty and challenges brought on by the lockdowns led the business to become dormant for a time. However, the owner’s unwavering drive and resilience reignited the dream. With a renewed focus and determination, she turned to the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) for support, seeking to enhance her skills. This partnership marked a pivotal moment for the business, setting it on a path toward growth and professional development.
In 2023, Nthabeleng Yawa the owner of the business enrolled in Seda’s Basic Business Skills training programme, which provided her with essential knowledge in areas such as financial management, marketing, and business operations. This training laid the groundwork for her to effectively manage and expand her business. In 2024, she further developed her business acumen by completing the Quality Management System Training, preparing her business for sustainable growth. With the ambition to build a recognisable brand in the catering and baking industry, she is more determined than ever to stand out as a serious contender.
Nthabbys Delights is not just a business—it is a vehicle for change. The company is deeply committed to uplifting the community of Kwa Nobuhle and beyond. Recognising the socio-economic challenges faced by many in the township, the business aims to create meaningful employment opportunities, particularly for women and young people. By creating a nurturing environment and fostering a legacy of success, she aspires to inspire and uplift those around her.
Challenges/Needs:
The business faced significant challenges in expanding its business reach beyond the local community. While word-of-mouth and social media had generated some customer interest, these efforts were not enough to drive the desired level of growth needed to showcase their diverse range of baked goods and catering services.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
We have assisted the business with the opportunity to participate in the February Greenacres Pop-Up Market.
Outcome Details:
This intervention enhanced the business's visibility and provided the opportunity to engage directly with new customers residing in Gqeberha. As a result, their sales increased by 10%, from R69 072 to R76 760 after gaining new clients through this exposure. This has further led to valuable referrals, expanding their customer base and driving continued growth.
