Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
The business is owned by Tashreeq Jappie. It started operating in March 2019 before
COVID 19 started. The business is based in Heideveld. Tashreeq is a qualified personal trainer
that spotted an opportunity next to his gym to start a small scale take away business as foot
traffic always passed his gym.
The business sells hot chips on weekends using small frying equipment that is in use in their
home. Initially it was slow for the owner, but he persisted with word-of-mouth advertising
and social media. They started offering more variety to their menu when customers
requested chip rolls, boerewors rolls, wraps, burgers, samosas. The business owner ventured
into trying out Bagel sandwiches, milkshakes, smoothies which was a huge success and is
their most popular item especially at market days.
Challenges/Needs:
• Lack of market branding, and
• Lack of access to market.
