Business Activities:
Jacobs Jam Company (JJC) is a start-up agro-food processing and manufacturing business
which identified a commercial opportunity in the manufacture and supply of mainly choice
grade jam to both local and international markets. The business is based in Ceres.
The equipment and principles are also suited to produce sauces such as tomato sauce,
chutneys, dairy preparations and a host of other products where fruit puree is a key
ingredient. Mr. Nigel Jacobs, the Managing Director and his wife Mrs Christynn Jacobs,
the Technical Director, collectively has over twenty years of experience in the food
manufacturing and FMCG industries together with an extensive network of suppliers and
markets both local and international for the proposed business.
The target market is health conscious individuals, including the general public,
supermarkets, flea markets, small food speciality stores and restaurants.
Challenges/Needs:
The business experienced the following challenges:
• Lack of business guidance and knowledge of funding options;

• Turnover increased from R 763 891,82 to R 1 446 893,25, an increase of 89,41%, and
• Employment opportunities increased from 5 to 8 staff members.
