Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Kasi Sauce is manufacturing various sauce flavours and supplies to mainly to retailers and few local people, especially the working class. The business is currently operating from home in Mashishimale; the medium-term goal is to secure a bigger site to expand the business. This move has the potential to increase the business sales by over 100%. Kgaogelo has worked as a sales executive where he honed his sales skills. He has served the restaurant industry doing various roles. He has also worked overseas in Seychelles for many years where he learned how to manufacture sauce. He has always known that he was destined to become a business owner as he got frustrated by lack of growth as an employee. A sauce manufacturing business was a natural choice because he has always loved experimenting with food. The experience gained while working for restaurants has made it easy for him to establish the business. He has a very high motivation to succeed as a person and to contribute to the development of his own community. The business manufactures a variety of source from mild, spicy, and hot flavors. The sauce is bottled according to the flavors and is then distributed to various clients who are mainly retailers and restaurants. South Africans are known to enjoy a good sauce with almost any meal of their choice. Kasi Sauce was received very warmly since it hit the local shelves. The long-term outlook regarding the sustainability and financial viability of the business is positive because the business has created solid relationships with clients and suppliers.
Challenges/Needs: The business had challenges with lack of exposure to potential markets, lack of marketing budget and lack of business management skills.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: (i) Business assessment
The assessment helped with financial projections, identification of strengths and weaknesses. This analysis generated a plan of action, as a result; Seda intervened as follows to help the client:


(ii) Marketing collaterals
The client was assisted with corporate identity, including design of a logo, letterhead, customized invoice, branded gazebo to use during exhibitions and quotation templates.

(iii) Financial Management Training
The business was enrolled for financial management training whereby the owner was taught on Understanding the cash management cycle, Basics of financial statements and analyze the financial statements.

(iv) Packaging
Seda assisted the business with product labelling, barcoding and procured bottles to help the business enhance the product image.

(v) Exhibition
Seda facilitated that the client exhibit the business products during Rand Easter Show in Gauteng, the Pop Up market in Tzaneen, Giyani, Phalaborwa and Maruleng.

Outcome Details: The business has grown and sales have increased from R360,000 to R480,000. The business’s number of employees has also grown from 4 to 5 as at September 2024.
