Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Malebo M Facilities Management (Pty) Ltd was founded eight years ago as a small catering business venture incorporated by Ms. Rachel Masukela. The company initially focused mainly on small scale catering activities such as private household parties and construction jobs. Ms. Masukela established the business with an intention to offer construction works however supplemented it with catering jobs. The company was formally incorporated with the Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (CIPC) on the 6th of October 2016 as a private company with the registration number 2019/429665/07. Malebo M Facilities Management (Pty) Ltd is currently located at the owner’s home which is at number 79 Chief Block Section in Tlakgameng, North West. The business currently offers take away catering service such as provision of hot meals and braai to the local community. After realizing the potential in the market, the owner expanded the target market to contractual catering by submitting proposals to public and private entities looking for catering service. The business employees staff on a contractual basis therefore only the owner is considered the permanent employee of the company. Popular services provided by the business include; braai plates, platters for special occasions, a variety of buffet menus, Promotional specials on Fridays (including confectioneries) and Traditional food sold during month end.
Challenges/Needs: The client approached SEDA with an aim of getting assistance for business development services. On our interaction with the client, the challenges were that the business was struggling to acquire industrial tools and appropriate business premises. The business had a challenge with reaching its target market due to limited marketing and promotional activities.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: Seda’s diagnostic assessment revealed that there is a need to assist the business with access to local markets. The women enterprise coaching intervention was initiated to upskill the owner in order to better market the business. The business was also assisted to submit an application for asset assist programme to acquire equipment and machinery. This interventions have brought an improvement in the company.
Outcome Details: The owner graduated from the WECP and managed to formalize processes in her company and stabilize operations. The company was also approved for the asset assist programme to benefit from a R250000 funding for equipment. As at time of conducting this assessment, the business turnover has increased from R600000 to R835400. The business managed to sustain the previous employment and are looking into hiring employees in a short term.
