Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: TSEBOHLOKOA LAUNDRY Services (Pty) Ltd is a formally registered business that began operating in 2021. It is led by the sole director, Lerato Gregoria Mokoena. Inspired by her educational background—a Diploma in Financial Management—she decided to take the risk of opening a business, driven by her passion for washing clothes. Upon returning to Frankfort after completing her post-matric studies, Lerato noticed a market gap. After staying in the area for about three months, she observed that there were numerous construction contracts and developments employing many people. She realized that some of the construction personnel were living in groups near their work sites. For her safety, she decided to operate from her home, making clients aware that her equipment was fixed and intact there. Without the capital to start the business, she used her parents’ washing machine. Lerato started the business with one consistent customer. After carefully considering her pricing, referrals began to come in. She advertised her business through posters and social media platforms. As the business grew, so did the challenges. The increased capacity meant that the washing couldn’t dry properly, especially in poor weather, highlighting the need for a tumble dryer. She has since purchased another machine but still faces space limitations, which restrict her ability to take on more jobs. However, she communicates effectively with her clients to ensure they collect their clothes as soon as they are dry and ready. Last year, Lerato noticed a drop in clients and introduced a feedback survey to address any uncertainties that might have contributed to this decline.

Client Feedback

Client Comments: “This year my business has picked up because of the equipment from SEDA and the financial management training. I am now keeping records of the business performance. Writing things on a piece of paper didn’t help much. SEDA assisted us with equipment funds, including a laptop and a machine. I am able to interact with my customers much better.”
