BACKGROUND.
The Origin of Khanyisani Bomma (Pty) Ltd - Whenever Mrs. C. G. Twala, the sole & only founding director, travels throughout the country she always wears herself created African dresses with unique costume accessories. And with the persistent call from various people from different walks of life, who loved her artistic dresses, she decided to start a business that will specialize in the manufacturing, tailor-made design and sale of indigenous traditional African attires and hence the business in the name of Khanyisani Bomma (Pty) Ltd t/a Khanyisani Bomma Traditions and Attires came into being.
Mrs. Twala then introduced the concept to a group of unemployed women in her location with the purpose of training and upskilling them to become part of her business at the employee level. Today, the business currently employs a group of seven woman. The Company, Khanyisani Bomma (Pty) Ltd is a registered business entity, founded by Mrs. Cristinah Gege Twala. The business specialises in the manufacturing, tailor-made design and sale of African traditional clothes that promotes African cultural heritage and beauty with more focus on Costume Fashion Accessories; Traditional-Infused Designer Wears; Wall frame Craftworks; Customized bags, etc.
The business is currently being operated from the client’s own residential place at number: 4130, Extension 02, Sivikele Street, Mhluzi in Middelburg under Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.
Challenges/Needs:
1. Poor clientele or Business marketing or Market Access.
Clothing & Textile sector is one highly competitive industry
and the sustainability of businesses operating within this
industry largely depends on its ability to market itself very
well and consistently improve its market presence, visibility,
market share and successfully link its product offerings with
the business target market.
At the time when the client was assessed, the business
had no proper marketing/sales plan to help establish and
continuously improve its market presence and visibility.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
INTERVENTION / SOLUTION.
• The day the client was introduced to Seda.
Mrs. Christinah Gege Twala was first onboard as Seda
Nkangala client in June 2023 and has since attended
various Seda in-house training to help develop necessary
skills to operate the business.
Upon the assessment of the client’s business, the following
challenges were then identified, and relevant intervention
support were implemented:
1. Marketing & Promotional Materials - to help business
improve its market presence and visibility.
2. Access to Market – the business was struggling to link its
product offering to the business target market.
• The day the client was introduced to Seda.
Mrs. Christinah Gege Twala was first onboard as Seda
Nkangala client in June 2023 and has since attended
various Seda in-house training to help develop necessary
skills to operate the business.
Upon the assessment of the client’s business, the following
challenges were then identified, and relevant intervention
support were implemented:
1. Marketing & Promotional Materials - to help business
improve its market presence and visibility.
2. Access to Market – the business was struggling to link its
product offering to the business target market.
Outcome Details:
1. Following the SEDA’s intervention support with both
Marketing & Promotional materials and Access to marketing
(trade exhibitions), the business turnover increased from
R35000,00 (as at the assessment date) to R186 000,00 (as
at the current Improvement Assessment date).
2. The business was also able to sustain 6 jobs and created 1
new job opportunity.
3. The business has also recently establish potential foreign
market (Kenya) and will be sending samples to Kenya.
