Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
Agriculture-Marumo Sisabe Organics Primary Co-operative has been operating informally for the last 6 years but was officially registered in February 2023. This small-scale, emerging co-operative operates within the agricultural sector and is involved in, livestock production (Goats), Organic vegetables and herbs as well as poultry. All farming operations are produced according to organic principles. The cooperative is located at Plot 203 Europa Street, Bashewa Agricultural Holdings, in Pretoria East. The goal of the co-operative is to build the business one milestone at a time, and to serve each client as if it were the last. Customer service and production quality is what the entity does best and is a large part of the company’s overall mission. This is what has resulted in the business building a strong base of clients for its livestock, organic vegetables and herbs. The Cooperative is growing in the livestock, organic vegetables and herbs side of the business and wants to also growth on the Poultry side of the business to extend business income streams.
Challenges/Needs:
• The Cooperative was growing in the livestock production, organic vegetables and herbs side of the business but needed the skills to enable the business to also grow the poultry side of the business.
• The business had a market for its Poultry products but lacked the necessary skills to produce products that meets the standard and expectations of the consumers. The business also had various other Poultry business related challenges such as a lack of feeding understanding, improper poultry housekeeping, lack of knowledge on vaccinations of Chickens and all these lead to the business having a high mortality rate in the Poultry section.

A diagnostic assessment on the business making use of a Small Business Assessment Tool was conducted. The findings of the assessment were clear that Training in Poultry was needed by this business. One of the Members was Sent to Buhle Farming Academy by Seda Tshwane to attend 3 Days basic Poultry Training to enable the cooperative to improve its poultry operations.
Outcome Details:
After the training, the owners implemented the lessons learnt at the course and the result was that the business lowered its chicken mortality rate.
