The Arc Trading (Pty) Ltd, also trading as Remingtons Home Decorations, is a registered home finishing supply store located in Vryburg under the jurisdiction of Naledi Local Municipality. The company is owned by Mr. Moabi Modise. He started his journey when he got employed in the construction industry, where he learned that big companies either focus on building materials, or specialized segments such as bathroom products of flooring. His interests when venturing into entrepreneurship were around home improvements, mainly home finishing products like paint, wall coatings, ceilings, and cornices. The Arc Trading (Pty) Ltd was initiated on the principle of establishing independently owned businesses throughout South Africa, with the view of creating sustainable local economies that benefits all communities. The idea behind the business is to give customers access to stylish and quality home finishing products to complete their homes, whether through contractors or a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) project.
Challenges/Needs:
The client visited SEDA with an aim of getting assistance with accessing financial support for the purpose of expanding the business to other areas. A CPE assessment was conducted, and a few challenges were identified. The current business premises are not visible to passing traffic.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
Seda’s diagnostic assessment revealed that there is a need to assist with signage to attract customers to their premises. Signage was developed and installed. The owner was invited to be part of the pitch and perfect participants from the district, and he was assisted to complete and submit application forms for TREP.
Outcome Details:
The business’ turnover has increased from R1 084 361 to R1 713 367. The business managed to sustain current employment of 3 staff members. The TREP application is still pending. The business is currently in the process of expanding to Morokweng Village in Kagisano Local Molopo Municipality.
