Leshego Ceramics and Pottery is a manufacturing primary co-operative established in 2016 by five previously disadvantaged youth. The business is based in Acornhoek within the Bushbuckridge local municipality. It specializes in bakery and confectionery and manufacturing of clay products. The target market is commercial, residential area and the community at large.
Some of the company’s products being manufactured include bread, scones, cakes, rolls and specially branded tableware such as tea sets, platter plates, dinner sets, steak plates, casserole and coffee mugs. The company’s products come in various shapes, sizes and textures in order to meet different tastes and configurations as may be required by the customer.
Challenges/Needs:
• Lack of financial management skills,
• Lack of business management skills,
• Lack of capital to develop the business and
• Limited business exposure.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
The client started working with Seda in January 2017 and the following interventions were commissioned to assist the client:
• Business management skills training.
• Co-operative management training.
• Development of a business plan.
• Training in quality management system.
• Referral to Tsogo Sun International for business development exposure and exhibitions.
• Referral to National Arts Council and Sefa for access to finance.
• Mentorship and coaching.
• Business management skills training.

• Development of a business plan.

• Referral to Tsogo Sun International for business development exposure and exhibitions.

Outcome Details:
• The client received a grant from BASA (Business and Arts South Africa) to the amount of R400,399.30
• Sustained six permanent jobs and
• Created three new jobs.
• Registered in the Tsogo Sun International entrepreneurial development programme which includes trainings and exhibitions.
• Supply its products to the following clients:
Kruger Shalati, Tour Vest, Emnotweni sun in Nelspruit and Fatc (Forgotten angel theater collaboration).
• The business had been visited by the Minister Stella Ndabeni Abrahams in January 2024 in Acornhoek village where the business is being operating.
